Holmes & Sons

HISTORY

Although new to Fleet, David Holmes and family have been working in funeral service since 1978. Our interest was originally sparked by our step-father Roy Wyld who was a Coroner’s Officer in West London. David first worked for G.H Kenyon & Sons in Shepherds Bush London. At that time they were proud to be the Royal funeral directors. Brother Andrew joined the Co-op as a teenager in Slough, before becoming Manager at well respected T.H Saunders & Son in Richmond Surrey.

The first Holmes funeral home opened in Hounslow West London in October 1992. This business is now part of the Co-op Group – Britain’s biggest funeral directors. David and the late Andrew Holmes ran two businesses. ‘Andrew Holmes & Son’ – owned by Andrew, with David forming ‘Holmes & Daughters’ in Ashford Middx. They were greatly assisted along the way by brothers John and Gary, Sister Deborah and Dad: John Senior. Our new business in Fleet is now the only Holmes funeral business run and owned by the Holmes family.

David is assisted in Fleet part time by his sons Laurence and Oliver. Daughter Anouska claims to be determined to join in too, but needs to finish her GCSE’s first! Laurence is studying Art in Bournemouth; Ollie is sitting A Levels and playing Rugby at London Wasps Academy most days. In 2006 he’s also been playing for the England Under 16 A Team, he’s easily spotted when helping out around the funeral home as he’s 6’ 4! Sheena Tyler and Gary Keyes assist, both are very experienced dedicated funeral directors.
